Born on September 5, 1960 in Griffin,Georgia. James Adkisson was described as a quick, multitalented young receiver. He weighs 230 lbs. and stands 6 feet tall 5 inches. And in 2005, he made tight end transition in one of his games.

Later that year, he went through a rigorous training for the first 16 weeks of the season before being elevated to the active roster for the season finale versus NYG. He became inactive for awhile but in the preseason action he caught one pass for five yards.

In 2004, James Adkisson went on a training camp with the Raiders before being waived prior to the start of the regular season. November 24 of that same year, he left the practice squad. The Raiders assigned him to NFL Europe and was selected by Cologne. When he played for the Centurions he caught 11 passes and a touchdown for 156 yards.

As an undrafted rookie free agent by Cincinnati he entered NFL in 2003, waived prior to start of the regular season. He went back to the Raiders practice squad in November 24, 2003 and spent the remainder of the season in Oakland.

During his senior year at South Carolina, he caught nine passes for 112 yards and one touchdown in five games. His junior season was quite memorable, he suffered from a number of injuries after appearing in two contests.
As a sophore he played in 12 games, catching 17 passes for 227 yards averaging 13.4 per catch.
He also ran track for the Gamecocks. He earned the Junior College All-America honors at Kemper Military (Missouri), after catching 59 passes for 1,375 yards and seven touchdowns.
Caught seven passes for 256 yards and two scores against Northeast Oklahoma.

He attended highschool at Ritenour High School in his hometown of St. Louis where he played football for one year, earning All-State honors as a kickoff returner.
Also played basketball and competed in track as sprinter on U.S. Junior Olympic Team.
